CBD has been growing more and more in popularity over the years because of all of the talk about how it can help ailments such as anxiety, depression, disorders that cause inflammation, pain and even epileptic seizures. CBD is short for cannabidiol and is naturally occurring in hemp, a type of cannabis plant. Unlike regular cannabis, CBD is an extract that provides all of the therapeutic benefits of marijuana without the psychoactive effects and is why it’s safe for people to consume on a daily basis.
CBD is currently available for purchase across the U.S. and Canada and can be found online, in our storefront and in cannabis shops. Even though CBD is currently legal to sell, some states still require a prescription for purchase. One of the great things about CBD is that it can come in many forms including edibles, capsules, tinctures and creams. One of the most popular ways to take CBD is by vaping it.
Here are some common things to look out for when vaping CBD:
1. CBD Oil vs. CBD Vape Juice
CBD oil has become a popular delivery of CBD however it’s important to stress the difference between CBD oil and CBD vape juice. CBD oil is a hemp oil that is usually infused into MCT oil or coconut oil and is usually taken through a tincture. This oil is not safe for inhaling and can even lead to health complications like lipoid pneumonia. CBD vape pens on the other hand is most known for being safe to inhale and is the product you want when vaping CBD. It’s also important to note that not every oil tincture or dropper bottle is properly labelled. So when purchasing your vaping liquid, be sure to double check that the substance inside the e-juice style dropper bottles is in fact juice and not oil.
There are two types of CBD that are safe to vape:
CBD Vape Juice
You may find something called CBD vape oil. This vaping substance may be labelled as an “oil” but it actually doesn’t contain any oil, which is why it is known to be safe for vaping. A better name for this kind of product is CBD vape juice or CBD distillate. This type of “oil” is safe for ingesting orally as well as for inhaling. Common ingredients you’ll find in CBD vape juice are PG, VG, CBD extract, terpenes and cannabinoids. If your product contains anything other than these common ingredients, you may be dealing with something that’s unsuitable for inhalation.
CBD Cartridges
These cartridges are disposable tanks filled with CBD e-juice. They are compatible with a 510 battery and are known to be very easy to use. These products can also be called PODS which are compatible with the JUUL device.
2. Side effects of vaping CBD
Vaping is a relatively new technology so we know very little about possible side effects. However, there are a few findings. Research has shown that CBD vaping has shown cause mild drowsiness in some first time users and can subside with regular use. It was also found that vaping CBD can cause hunger, mild euphoria and red eyes.
3. THC content
No, CBD will not get you high. It doesn’t contain nearly enough THC to cause even a slight buzz. At only 0.3% THC, it’s safe to say that CBD, chemically, will not show any THC in a drug test.
4. Can you overdose on CBD?
The Americans for Safe Access stated at a conference in 2016 that, “To date, there has never been a single well documented case of human mortality attributable to an overdose of cannabis or its components, and no experimental or non-extrapolated LD50 can be attributed to a toxic or lethal overdose.” CBD has been known to be extremely low in toxicity. In fact, you would have to consume 100X the average dose of CBD (30mg) before you would be in any real danger.
5. Real vs. fake CBD
It’s true that many products on the market today masquerade as “real” CBD products. These products are made either with the wrong concentration of CBD, or with synthetic chemicals and contaminants that can cause unwanted side effects. When choosing a CBD brand, go for one that is popular and has received positive reviews. A brand like VIDA tests their products more rigorously using third party ISO labs and post their results publicly.
So as you can see, vaping CBD is one of the easiest ways to take full advantage of its therapeutic benefits. Now that you know what to look out for when buying CBD vaping liquid, you’ll be confident that you’re inhaling a substance that is both safe and effective.
